Ogun trains staff to avert menace of building collapse

To avert building collapse, Ogun State trains it's staff.

In furtherance of its zero tolerance for building collapse in Ogun State, staff of the state's Building Authority has undergone a one-day training to enhance efficiency and improvement in service delivery.

The Acting General Manager (Bldr.) of the state Building Production Management Authority (the Building Authority), (Mrs.) Titilayo Oladogbon while declaring the training open at the Valley View Auditorium, Abeokuta, said the goal of the Authority was to ensure that all building constructions must be safe, sound and resilient with the aim of achieving zero tolerance of building collapse in the State.

 ‘’safety, quality and integrity, should be the watchword for all professionals in the Authority.

"The provisions of the Ogun State Urban and Physical Planning, Development Law, 2022 and the Ogun State Building Production Management Regulation, 2022 which were domesticated from the National Building Code 2005, should guide each professional in the discharge of their duties which is further regulated by their professional bodies", she said.

Speaking on the schedule of the Department of Building Inspectorate and Research, the Director, Arc. Aderonke Afolabi, said the importance of continuous identification of distressed, dangerous and abandoned buildings from time to time was to avoid building collapse in the State. She stressed that it was essential to ensure that relevant professionals were engaged in the construction and supervision of building development.

Other Heads of Department spoke on their schedules of duty as well, which encompasses Quality Assurance and Control by Engr. Olusegun Sowemimo; Building Services and Audit Engr. ‘Deji Shoyemi; and Building Certification, Bldr. Oluremi Olumefun,  emphasised the need to carry out their duties with due diligence in order to avert the menace of building collapse, Bldr. Bidemi Balogun gave a talk on Health and Safety Policy of the Authority.

Speaking, Director, Administration and Supplies Mrs. Oluwakemi Fadimu, advised the newly recruited staff deployed to the Authority, to be good ambassadors of Government when posted to the field, and adhere strictly to rules and regulations of the Civil Service for their career progression.

Responding on behalf of the Participants, Mr. Adedamola Omonayajo and Mrs. Olusola Babatunde, appreciated the Management for sensitising them on efficiency which would increase the capacity and skills necessary to enhance quality building production in the State.
