Ogun mourn as Amosun dies by rainstorm

The collapsed school building in Ilase, Ogun State.

A terrible rainstorm has recently hit Ilase, Ogun State, devastating the community and destroying it's secondary school, Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School, killing a student, 14-year-old Timothy Amosun, as the school building collapsed.

The Press Secretary to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Mr Lekan Adeniran confirmed the heartbreaking incident in a statement during the week.

The violent storm also left a trail of destruction with five students, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old baby sustained varied serious injuries.

In the statement, the governor described the incident as a “rude shock” and an “unimaginable tragedy” for the affected families and the community.

“We pray God grants the family of the deceased the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss,” Abiodun stated.

In response to the disaster, the governor has assured that the state would cover all medical expenses for the injured as he directed that those in critical conditions be moved to specialist hospitals for advanced care.

He also instructed the Commissioner for Education to visit the victims’ families and assess the damages to ensure swift reconstruction of the school.

Ogun State Government regretted the rainstorm incident greatly as the tragic loss of Timothy Amosun has plunged the community into mourning while other affected families and residents grapple with the devastating impact of the storm.
