Edun Launches Performance System To Ensure Dev. Priorities

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has launched the Performance Management System (PMS) for delivery on development priorities.

The System launched on Thursday is aimed at enhancing the overall efficiency of staff with a view to ensuring proper management of the nation's finances in an open, transparent,  accountable and efficient manner that delivers on the country's development priorities.

The Management System is in line with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021- 2025 (FCSSIP 25) as introduced by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to drive civil service reforms,

Speaking during the launch of the PMS, the Minister stated that the implementation of the Performance Management System in Nigeria is crucial for achieving the nation's development goals.

He noted that the  Public Service plays a vital role in the  realization of the policy objectives of government and that an effective PMS is essential for boosting productivity and service delivery 

Mr Edun explained that the institutionalization of performance management is critical for improved productivity and service delivery within the civil service. 

To further embed this culture, Mr Edun declared every Thursday henceforth to be observed as Performance Management System Day in the Finance Ministry by all the staff.

He commended the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for the doggedness in bringing up innovative ideas and ensuring the implementation of  policies and initiatives aimed at transforming Nigeria’s Public Service in line with the contemporary global realities. 

The Minister enjoined the staff to also prioritize performance in their daily work, emphasizing teamwork and continuous striving for excellence. 

"As public servants, we have a vital role in serving the nation at the highest level. Let us embrace this culture of excellence and make Nigeria proud. We should imbibe the culture of efficiency,  productivity,  Incorruptible and be Citizen-Centred",  Edun stated.

In her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya emphasized the importance of the PMS in aligning the Ministry's goals with the FCSSIP 25.

 "Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence. The Performance Management System will enable us to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions", the Permanent Secretary noted.

Mrs Jafiya outlined Key Features of the PMS to include Regular Performance Evaluations: Staff will receive regular feedback and evaluations to identify areas for improvement;
Goal Setting: Clear goals and objectives will be set for each department and staff member;
Performance-Based Promotion: Promotions will be based on performance, ensuring that deserving staff are recognized and rewarded.

With the launch of the Performance Management System, the Federal Ministry of Finance has demonstrated its commitment to efficient service delivery with a view to ensuring the realization of the country’s development priorities geared towards revitalizing the economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration

In her vote of thanks,  the Director,  Human Resources Mrs Olusola Dada, on behalf of the entire management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance, extended deepest gratitude to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for launching the Performance Management System (PMS).

She also appreciated the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, for her tireless efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of the PMS. 
"Your guidance and support have been invaluable*, she remarked.

To our colleagues and team members, thank you for your hard work and dedication. The PMS is a crucial tool for our growth and development, and we look forward to reaping its benefits.
"The launch of the PMS marks a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence. We are proud to be part of this transformative process, and we pledge to uphold the principles of efficiency, productivity, incorruptibility, and citizen-centeredness". 

"Thank you once again, Honourable Minister, for your  leadership. We are committed to making Nigeria proud", Mrs Dada assured.
