Ogun To Get Uninterrupted Power Supply Soon ...enabling bill now in Assembly

Ogun State will soon be enjoying uninterrupted power supply as government has put machineries in motion to set up an industrial power house that will ensure this.

A bill to facilitate this plan is also in the offing.

This disclosure was made in Lagos by the Global Adviser, Boston Power Limited, who is the Consultant to the Ogun State government on Power, Mr. Olawale Oluwo, during a Stakeholders' Workshop on Ogun State Electricity Market.

Mr. Oluwo said the workshop was to map out ways to reform the electricity sector in the state, towards achieving adequate power supply for households, industrial and commercial use, alongside other public sector institutions within the state.

He pointed out that the bill had been drafted and forwarded to the state House of Assembly to be signed into law by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

He also disclosed that the Ministry of Energy and State Electricity Regulation would be established to oversee the activities of the sector.

Also speaking, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Energy, Mr. Olufemi Omisanjo, explained that the bill would engender sufficient capacity to generate, transmit, distribute power and collect tariff, and serve as an avenue to generate revenue for the state, calling for private sector’s partnership and initiative, in a bid to ensure its success.

“In creating a viable and functional market, the workshop is an avenue for the government and its Consultants to meet with various stakeholders and investors, in order to understand how we intend to fashion out the very viable and bankable Ogun State Electricity Market”, he said.

A participant at the workshop, Mr. Babatunde Oshadare, noted that the project would ensure increased power supply for improved living condition of residents in the state.
