Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has subsidised the amount payable for this year Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the state both for public and private schools across the state.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, Prince Abiodun paid for the 75,664 candidates registered in public schools and 87,236 in private schools, all totalling 162,900.
Speaking during the monitoring of the examination yesterday, Mrs. Oloko, noted that examination materials were also adequately supplied.
She explained that Governor Dapo Abiodun-led government subsidised the amount payable for the examination for private schools across the state in order to support parents and learners in cushioning the effects of the economic challenges confronting the nation.
School administrators, supervisors, teachers and students in both public and private Junior Secondary Schools in Ogun State were also given kudos for their good conducts at the commencement of the Examination in the state.
She applauded schools visited for complying with guidelines for cholera prevention, disclosing that no case of the outbreak had so far been recorded in any school in the state.
Applauding government for the Optical Memory Recorder (OMR) sheets, the Principals of Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo, Mr. Solomon Osunsanya; Abusi Edumare Academy, Ijebu-Igbo, Mr. Ayankole Otunaya; Itamerin Comprehensive High School, Mrs. Comfort Solaja, Methodist Comprehensive High School, Ago-Iwoye, Mrs. Idowu Olubanke and Methodist Comprehensive High School, Mission, Mr. Alaba Adedeji, noted that it would help in proper identification and address examination malpractices.
Also speaking on behalf of other BECE supervisors, Mr. Felix Obateru, said there was great improvement in the supply of examination materials, appreciating government for introducing technology innovation into the education system.
