The Spelling Bee competition challenges students to explore the intricate nuances of language and to unravel mysteries hidden within words.
The competition has also been described as a celebration of intelligence and language skills which is a testament of Ogun State government's commitment to providing quality education and fostering the spirit of excellence among students.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu stated this at the finals of 2024 Ogun State Spelling Bee Championship, organised by the Ministry, in conjunction with Peak Brains Consult.
Prof. Arigbabu noted that It encourages students to dive deep into the pages of dictionaries, explore etymologies and phonetics to become excellent spellers.
Prof. Arigbabu, represented by a Senior Education Officer in the Ministry, Mrs. Bolanle Idowu, said each competitor in the programme represents the immense potential of education system in the state.
He urged the students to develop love for learning and passion for knowledge, while cultivating curiosity and eagerness to explore the depths of human understanding.
"The Spelling Bee competition embodies the spirit of intellectual curiosity. It challenges students to explore the intricate nuances of language, to unravel the mysterious hidden within words; encourages students to dive deep into the pages of dictionaries, explore etymologies and phonetics to become excellent spellers", he said.
Remarking, the royal father of the day, Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Aremu Gbadebo, represented by the Baamowe of Egbaland, Prof. Ajao Adelekan, commended the students for their exceptional skills and participation in the competition which he described as a testament to their dedication and resilience.
Over 250 students participated in the competition with Speller Wasilat Bello coming first in the senior category, while Speller Aisha Mustapha won in the junior category.
