The police has taken appropriate disciplinary measures against three of its inspectors caught recently flagrantly extorting money from commercial motorcyclists in contravention of the Police Act and Regulations.
The three, Inspectors Ikhanorba Lucky, Paul Sunday and Edwin Ekeogu were on October 19, 2023 recorded on camera at Maawu Bus Stop in Agbado area of Ogun State in the act of the extortion.
In a release by SP Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) the "incident of professional misconduct" which was widely shared on the social media attracted the attention of the state Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha who has ordered an orderly room trial of the officers.
According to the PPRO, Alamutu strongly condemned the unprofessional act of the men and has therefore "activated appropriate disciplinary measures against them to ensure that they are held accountable for their misconduct and to serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to toe this ignoble path".
SP Omolola Odutola noted that the Commissioner has for the umpteenth time emphasised Police high hierarchy's commitment to upholding professional standards within the force to sustain avowed quality service delivery to the citizens in order to sustain public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
