Solutions to all social menaces confronting the nation could be found within affected communities, says Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, a renowned Abeokuta based social activist and philanthropist.
Asiwaju Wahab said this while speaking at the courtesy call of the Commandant of Narcotics of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State, Commandant Ibiba Jane Odili on the Onitaafin of Itaafin, Oba Monrufu Alani Adebayo in his palace in Abeokuta recently.
The social activist who is the Chairman of Ifedara-Opeji Area Community Development Council (ACDC) and the President of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation opined that panaceas to challenges in areas of security, crimes and drug abuse is in prompt actions at endemic level before they become pandemic.
He said most social malaises could be quenched at local level through solutions deduced from their sources before they become unmanageable by spreading to other areas in the country.
He stressed the importance and need for the immediate take off of proposed Community Policing, saying it would go a long way to help in crime fighting at local levels before they transform into national headaches such as Boko Haram.
While Urging governments in the country to adopt a prompt attention approach to issues saying sustainable development is only feasible this way, Asiwaju Wahab gave kudos to the Commandant of Narcotics of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State, Commandant Ibiba Jane Odili for according priority to communities the eat against drug misuse.
He assured Odili that this is the only way to get the total cooperation of the community leaders in order to achieve total success in the war against drug in the country.
In her own speech, the Commandant of Narcotics of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State, Commandant Ibiba Jane Odili noted that Ogun State had taken the lead in several areas and so should take the war against drugs seriously so that it would not subtract from the state's records of firsts.
She said though NDLEA is limited in resources and personnel, it relies on assistance from its communities, including palaces to help it perform creditably.
In his response, the Onitaafin, Oba Adebayo commended the NDLEA chieftain, noting that she is performing creditably in the state and assured her of the support of his community.
Oba Adebayo who said Commandant Odili should feel free to come to his palace anytime as she is now a recognized citizen of the community also bestowed the Chieftaincy title of Yeye Soludero of Orile Itaafin on the drug fighter and Aare Ago of Orile Itaafin on Asiwaju Dapo Wahab.
