President Muhammadu Buhari's policy of annual recruitment of ten thousand (10,000)
Constables into the Nigeria Police Force shows his
commitment to bequeathing to the
country a reformed and well-positioned Police Force with
renewed capacity and commitment to attain its internal
security mandate, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has said.
Speaking at the Passing-Out-Parade Ceremonies of the 2022 Batch of Police Constables today, the nation's number one policeman noted that the policy would facilitate the attainment of the nation's Community
Policing goals.
He explained that the graduating recruits would all be posted back to their
various Local Government Areas to further entrench the
Policing strategy of the Federal Government which is aimed at addressing communal crimes in their respective areas of
purview
The IGP was represented in Lokoja by AIG kunle Asafa, the AIG zone 8, Lokoja, kogi State at the Passing-Out-Parade which took place simultaneously in four
(4) Premier Colleges and Twelve (12) Police Training Schools
across the country.
IGP Baba said the passing out parade wrapped up six (6) months of highly
challenging rigorous, physical, and intellectual training
activities and it signifies the transition of the recruits into mainstream professional policing duties with the right
orientation to meet emerging security challenges within the
dictates of the rule of law.
According to the IGP: "This ceremony represents another giant stride by the
Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency,
President Muhammadu Buhari towards repositioning the
Nigeria Police Force by addressing the lingering manpower
gap in the Force which has been inhibiting optimal police
service delivery in this country".
IGP Baba also pointed out that all the graduating
recruit constables will be deployed to complement officers on
the forthcoming election security duties across the nation.
He explained that this is aimed at ensuring a free, fair and credible electoral process.
The IGP also noted that the recruitment exercise
was spread over the 774 Local Government Areas of the
country with due regard to Federal Character considerations.
He congratulated the new recruits as he
reminded them that they
are coming into a reformed Police Force that is experiencing
an ethical rebirth, a Force that is increasingly equipped,
well-focused and properly oriented to take the war against crimes to the fortress of criminal elements that are bent on
threatening our shared values for peace, security, and
liberty.
Baba noted that their graduation today signified that: "you are the lucky
few that have been found worthy in character, learning,
physical and mental fitness to serve Nigeria, your
Fatherland.
He welcomed them into "the big, strong, and resilient Police Family" while wishing them a fulfilling career.
"As you answer the national call and undertake this
noble path of law enforcement, let me remind you that the
bedrock of policing is discipline, and I am sure you must
have been taught that the best form of discipline is self- discipline. Much as you have a promising and bright career
ahead of you, how far you go in this career depends, to a
great extent, on your character, discipline, and integrity", the number one policeman of the nation stressed.
