A Bachelor of Science student in the Computer Science Department of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) has been rusticated from the institution for allegedly impregnating his lecturer.
The university disciplinary board is said to have received the ludicrous news of the student impregnating his lecturer with acute shock hence the harsh penalty.
The student was therefore called up by the board to receive his expulsion letter after the meeting of the disciplinary board.
The student's action still remained a shock to all who have heard of it, even outside FULAFIA community, because of its irony, as the raging issue of sexual harassment which is rampant in Nigeria's institutions of higher learning weighed heavily against male lecturers and not vice versa.
Though, many argued that cases of female lecturer's harassment of their students do happen but this is about the first time this sort of scandal in a Nigeria's institution of higher learning will hit the public space.
How the peculiar news went viral within the university and reached the board still remains a mystery.
What the student recalls was an urgent call he had received one fateful morning, requiring him to appear before the board the very day not later than noon.
Overwhelmed with curiosity and panic, he had prepared himself, ready to find out what was amiss.
That was when he sadly learnt that this affair with the lecturer had not only resulted in him impregnating her, but also landed him in trouble.
Crying for clemency and seeking pardon, the student had broken down into uncontrollable tears, but the university Senate had made their decision and would not be persuaded to vacate the position many considered too harsh and partial.
But a hail of indignation greeted the decision of the disciplinary board as many argued that the penalty should not have weighed heavily against the student alone as the issue was a consensual affair between the lecturer and the student.
Others believed that the disciplinary board of the Federal University of Lafia should not have dabbled into the matter as the female lecturer must have entered into it willingly of her own accord.
Information gathered by THE STATEPOST confirmed that even the Student Union Government of the neighbouring university, Nasarawa State University (NASU) waded into the matter to plead on behalf of the student but to no avail.
