The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may not hurriedly end its eight months old disagreement with the Federal Government and resume lecture as directed by the Court of Appeal after all.
The National president of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has confirmed that the academic body was still negotiating with the government and that the strike would be called off when all parties have reached agreements.
Speaking exclusively at an interview with a news medium (not the THE STATEPOST) yesterday, Prof. Osodeke debunked reports been diseminated publicly that lecturers have suspended their strike and were ready to return to classrooms across the country.
Osodeke noted that the strike still continues and urged lecturers to remain resolute on their demands.
The ASUU chairman stressed that students as well as parents should disregard statements been diseminated on different social media platforms and wait for the official statement from the union.
Meanwhile, branches of the academic union were reported to have commenced a two-day voting exercise to determine continuation of the ongoing strike by the lecturers across the country.
The two-day exercise would be taking place across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, affording the lecturers choice to pick either to accept the Federal Government offers or not.
The decision of the various branches, as gathered, would be transmitted to the National Executive Council of the union for final decision on their stance.
It was learnt that the branches were directed by the ASUU leadership to embark on the exercise after their meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other law makers at the green chamber.
