IPC calls for protection of female journalists

International Press Centre (IPC) has demanded adequate protection for female journalists against violence.

The demand followed the alleged brutalisation of ABC journalist, Nefasah Vandi by her estranged husband.

In a statement, yesterday, the Executive Director, Lanre Arogundade, pointed out that the report reaching IPC’s Safety Alert Desk revealed that Vandi, a mother of three, was allegedly beaten to stupor by her estranged husband, Ibrahim Aliyu, resulting in injuries, including dislocation of her arm.

Condemning the attack on the female journalist, Arogundade, stated: “The spike in the cases of domestic violence against women by their spouses is alarming.”

He, therefore, charged security operatives to thoroughly carry out their investigations and prosecute the perpetrator as a step towards reducing attacks on female journalists in Nigeria.
