Fight Against Cultism: Inter Agency Consultative Forum Needed For Police, Others, Says Wahab

                                           Asiwaju Dapo Wahab

A call has gone out to all law enforcement agencies in the country to come together to form an umbrella body that will serve as an inter-agency consultative forum for the police and other military and paramilitary bodies to exchange ideas and information in order to ensure effective cooperations among themselves in the task of ensuring maximum safety for lives and property in the country.

The need for this consultative forum was muted by Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, the Chairman of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation (ADWF), a peace initiative and non-governmental organisation during a live phone-in Yoruba programme on an Abeokuta based radio station, Splash f.m.

Asiwaju Wahab, a businessman and well known philanthropist was a guest at the radio station to speak on the issue of cultism and its destructive stranglehold on our society during Splash f.m's one hour programme on safety of the people tagged "Alafia Loju", a program powered by Peace Initiatives Network, an N.G.O.

Wahab who condemned cultism in institutions of higher learning in its entity noted that its spread is beginning to become a great threat to the security of the people of Ogun State as the cankerworm has began to manifest even among primary school pupils in the state.

He noted that stranglehold of cultism is already affecting business and progressive development in Ogun State as different cult groups kill themselves daily in inter-cult rivalries which disturbs the peace of the society.

Wahab who traced the history of cultism in Nigeria to 1952 called for adequate care of their wards and children on the part of parents and stiffer laws and penalties on the part of government to discourage and halt the growth of the menace of cultism.

The Chairman of ADWF who opined that parents have a lot to do with children's participation in cultism as it could be a reflection of the home background where permisiveness on parents part had degenerated to the child surrendering to peer group pressure.

He however called on government to ensure that the wheel of justice run fast and swift as justice delayed or denied  could lead to a party seeking revenge at all cost without recourse to the processes of the law.

Wahab called on law enforcement agencies to cooperate more especially in the areas of information gathering and to share information readily among themselves for a better coverage of the society.

He also implored government to adequately provide necessary equipment to all the law enforcement agencies to facilitate their effective policing of schools and trouble proned areas.
