The health of the nation now is critical hence it presently lack the luxury of putting just anybody at its helm, Senator Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President and a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said.
Speaking during his recent visit to Ogun State secretariat of PDP in Abeokuta to consult with members and delegates in preparation for the party's presidential primary, Senator Saraki said Nigerians cannot just vote anyhow as the nation now requires a president with capacity, knowledge, experience and astuteness to repair it.
Painting a dire state of the nation, the presidential hopeful said about five hundred people die daily in the hands of bandits, kidnappers, cultists and terrorists noting that it is so bad now that even a pregnant woman was reported to have given birth to a baby while in custody of bandits and yet the country could not do anything about it.
Senator Saraki noted that the unity of the country is now very thin and fragile that it calls for a man with the know how to restore it adding that unemployment is now at a record high as government could no longer create jobs since 80% of its earnings now go to debt servicing.
He begged his party delegates to choose wisely during the presidential primary pointing out that he has all the wherewithal and cognitive experience to fix Nigeria and restore its pride.
Senator Saraki told them that his capability to reunite the warring factions of PDP in Ogun State and restore normalcy in the turbulent days of the party was a pointer to what he could do to reunite Nigeria's unity.
The presidential hopeful who is also a medical doctor promised to ensure an effective and efficient primary health care for every Nigerian when he becomes the president.
He sad that every Nigerian should be able to go to go to clinics and be treated for whatever disease as there would be health insurance for all.
In his own speech at the occasion, Ladi Adebutu, a leader of the party in the state and a gubernatorial aspirant said that based on the antecedents of Senator Saraki, if he had the power, he would have just ask the senator to take a bow and leave.
Noting that people should get recompense for what they had done, he said he knew the antecedents of Senator Saraki and was convinced that he has the capacity to lead the country out of the woods and therefore pleaded with the party's delegates to vote according to their conscience during the party's primary election.
Adebutu begged Nigerian voters to reject All Progressives Congress, APC, the ruling party at the 2023 polls noting that they have weaponised poverty and impoverished everybody.
He said what the APC know how to do best is money politics and implored Nigerians to take their money when the time comes as he was sure that they would soon roll out the Naira but that they should not vote for their candidates.
