Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transport and one of the presidential candidates of the All Progressives' Congress (APC) has declared himself the best to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023 as he challenged his co-competitors to prove him otherwise.
Speaking yesterday in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State where he had come to solicit the support of Governor Dapo Abiodun and members of APC as well as get the blessings of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Amaechi declared: "I challenge my competitors to show me how they are better off than me".
He asked Nigerians to check his past achievements noting that he comes with experience, energy and academic qualifications pointing out that he is even studying law now and he is shortly going to graduate as a lawyer.
The presidential hopeful said nobody can accuse him of not being smart as he would not have been in the various positions he had held if he was not smart.
Amaechi emphasized that he is not an Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Riverian or Ikwere candidate but a Nigerian candidate. He said his antecedents speak for him because in government, he has always been detribalised in all he did.
He also pointed out that among all his competitors nobody has ever governed a state where there is insecurity like Rivers State when he was the governor and yet he subdued the monster. He said he was able to beat the kidnappers in the state then at their game because he refused to negotiate with them nor pay ransom as he made it a law that any victim that pay would be jailed six months.
The minister who said he has several friends in the state appealed to the people of Ogun to vote for him for friendship sake.
Responding, Governor Abiodun who described Amaechi as an "Omoluabi" said he is an eminent member of their party, the APC. He congratulated him for the courage and zeal he is mustering in the pursuit of his dream.
He prayed for him hoping that the primaries of the party would be as successful as the convention was.
Amaechi was also well received at the Alake's Palace where all the chiefs and kabiesi Oba Gbadebo prayed for him.
