7 suspects now in Police net over murder of Sergeant

By Owolola Adebola

Homicide detectives  drawn from  the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID),Louis Edet House in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja have arrested over seven suspects last week in connection with the killing in Lagos of a serving Mobile  Police Officer identified as   Edison Fulman, with Force Number 500314.

According to information gathered by our correspondent, the police are now ready to prosecute the arrested suspects.

A source close to the police headquarters  in Lagos confirmed that: "We have assembled our evidences  for the case and now ready for prosecution".

It would be recalled that the said police officer lost his life  few weeks ago while on duty at  Etegbin Community in Lagos where he was reportedly attacked by a group of hoodlums numbering about fifty.

Apparently piqued by the ugly incident, and prompted by the flurry of petitionsaddressed to his office over the matter, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, directed a handful of Homicide detectives from FCID Abuja to fish out those responsible for the dastardly act.

Those arrested in connection with the death of the Police Sergeant are: Sikiru Lamidi, Ayepe  Moshood,Festus Onifade,Buhari Musa, Sarafadeen Saka ,Moses Adeola, and Sabitu Anafu.

The arrested suspects were said to have  confessed to the crime and had also named other accomplices.

ln an interview with our correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintenden Adejobi, confirmed the arrest of the suspects assuring us that they (the suspects) would be methodically screened with the intent of ascertaining the level of culpability of each individual in the matter.

The police image maker was quick to add that those who do not have anything to do with the matter would be released at the conclusion of investigations noting that "We don't detain people unnecessarily. We are policing with integrity".

The late Sergeant Edison  Fulman was  serving at Zone 2 Command Headquarters before his death. He was one of the 17 officers posted to Etegbin Community to see to the smooth possession of acres of land when he met his death in the hands of gun wielding hoodlums".

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of some other colleagues of the deceased police officers who were also said to have been kidnapped the same fateful day remained a mystery.

These include Ganiyu Ogunbakinde; Olumide Omoakin; Jamiu Osama; Azeez Oloye; Akeem; Taiwo; Dayo and Wasiu.

The police had last week also invited some key government functionaries at Alausa ,the Lagos State Government's seat of power in connection with the mayhem.
