The humanitarian works of Thinkrich Community, the philanthropic organization presently making waves in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State is beginning to be noticed even beyond the shores of Nigeria as a new stripe has now been added to the epaulette of its chief executive as a mark of acknowledgement.
Saheed Salami Oladimeji, the President of Thinkrich Community was yesterday (Thursday) bestowed the honour of Eminent Peace Ambassador of the United Nations.
Mr. Oladimeji was decorated as a Peace Ambassador at the prestigious Welcome Center Hotels, along Murtala Mohammed Airport Road in Ikeja, Lagos at a well attended Award Ceremony graced by eminent personalities and dignitaries which include the representatives of the Lagos State Government and the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
The award which was given by the International Association of World Peace Advocates, a world class organization with United Nations' special consultative status has in attendance several traditional leaders which include the Olu of Owode Egbaland, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo whose son was also decorated as an Eminent Ambassador at the pageant ceremony.
Listed among distinguished personalities at the occasion was also the Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Mr. Adesina Ogunsola who was also accorded the respected honor of an Eminent Ambassador.
The ceremony which was also laced with several speeches on gender equality and drama sketches by schools was held in tandem with the commemoration of this year's International Day For The Elimination of Violence Against Women which is always marked worldwide on November 25, every year.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Timothy Olopade, the Global Diplomat and Eminent Peace Ambassador, noted that the theme for this year, "Orange The World" in the ongoing fight of the United Nations against violence on women was apt.
He pointed out that the theme was self explanatory as orange is a sweet fruit which denoted that if we eschew violence on women, our world would be sweeter.
He said that everyone has a role to play to ensure we sweeten up our world by eschewing violence on women as this evil undermines gender equality.
The Ambassador explained that one in every five women had suffered one violence or the other such as rape, child marriage, genital mutilation, domestic violence and several other forms of degradation which affect their well-being should be viewed as violence against their sex.
He insisted that "we can build a better world if we allow women to attain total gender equality because when women are empowered, the whole nation is empowered."
