The Nigeria Police should not be scoffed at or derided as wholly corrupt and incapable of combating crime in the country as there are still many upright officers carrying out their duties conscientiously within the rank and file of the organization, a popular Lagos based clergy, Pastor James Ndujekwu Ufondu has declared.
Speaking exclusively with THE STATEPOST recently, Pastor Ufondu, the General Overseer of Eternal Hope Christian Mission a.k.a Holiness, Evangelical and Deliverance Center at 18, Bello street, Orile Iganmu, a suburb of Central Lagos said the Police Force in Nigeria is the most vilified of all agents of government in the country.
He noted that despite the fact that many Nigerians see the institution as a no good and totally written off agent of government, the man of God insisted that they are doing more good than bad for the country.
He said that the police should get the sympathy of the people for carrying out their duties even in the most difficult and dangerous situations.
Pastor Ufondu who was at a time the Director of Training and Logistics for the Crime Prevention Campaign of Nigeria (CPCN), a nongovernmental organization (NGO) of the Nigeria Police and has himself gone through police training at the Police College, Ikeja noted that though much vilified, the police in the country remains a veritable instrument of government still helping to keep the country united.
The clergyman observed that he knew the police has its own bad eggs just like in the larger society, he however advised officers in the service that if they found that they cannot do their jobs without corruption, it is better to resign rather than soil their hands and ruin their integrities as well as lose their souls.
He advised police officers that in the business of carrying out their duties, they should keep it at the back of their minds that there is God to whom everybody will eventually give accounts of their stewardship on earth to.
Pastor Ufondu also implored government not to shack their responsibilities by ensuring prompt payment of the remunerations of the police and other arms of government.
He said politicians as leaders should care for the people and not their pockets only as they were chosen by God to be His representatives in the administration of the country.
