Ogun Assembly table herders/ farmers bill at public hearing today

Ogun State House of Assembly is determined to find a lasting solution to the perennial problem of herders/ farmers' clashes presently threatening the security and the peaceful co-existence of its people as well as communal development of the state.

To this end, an all-inclusive legislations that would checkmate herders/ farmers' clashes, promote peaceful co-existence as well as communal development and aid food production will today (Wednesday, March 17, 2021) be the focus of discussion at a public hearing of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

The two bills that are slated for public hearings today are “HB No. 45/OG/2020- The Animal Grazing and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law of Ogun State, 2020” as well as “HB No. 44/OG/2020- The Community Development Association Law of Ogun State”.

A release signed by the Clerk of the Assembly and Head of Legislative Services, ‘Deji Adeyemo, indicated that the stakeholders’ forum on the two bills is meant to harness input and contributions of all relevant stakeholders in the agriculture, community development and allied sector.

The release indicated that the fora was meant to harmonize inputs of stakeholders towards having all-inclusive bills to stem the tides of farmers/herders’ clashes through ranching system and setting legislative modalities for the operations of Community Development Associations in the State.

The public hearing, according to the release, takes place at the State House of Assembly Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta at 10:00am prompt, while all the stakeholders are enjoined to be seated by 9.30 am.
