The Chairman of the Ogun State Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ven (Dr) Samson Kunle Popoola has called on the Federal Government to make the Nigeria Police a revenue generating agency.

Explaining to THE STATEPOST via Whashap, an online social medium, Ven Popoola said he did not advocate for commercialization of the Nigeria Police as inadvertently misinterpreted by us in our recent report.

He said what he called for was that the Nigeria Police should be empowered to impose fine on minor offences instead of encumbering the law courts and cramming detention cells with minor offenders.

The PCRC boss who however stood by his conviction that the Nigeria Police is underfunded maintained that the money so generated could be ploughed back into the upkeep of the police.

He called for a friendly police force that behave civilly in accordance with its mantra that says 'the police is your friend'.

The PCRC boss stressed that the police could still be civil while carrying our their duties instead of the high handed methods adopted when fighting crimes.

He pointed out that the PCRC has shown its relevance to police relations with its communities as the organization stepped out when it was needed to appeal to the youth and to douse the tensed atmosphere.
