Herdsmen Plunge Ado Ekiti Into Pandemonium

"Katakata" broke out yesterday at Olabode area of Ajebandele, Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital when some stern looking herdsmen led an endless line of aggressive cows to the residential settlement.

Residents scampered for safety with most of them locking themselves indoors since the herdsmen turned deaf ears to the distant cries of the scared members of the community who watched helplessly as the cows fed fat on the plants in their gardens.

The wooden bridge linking the two segments of the community compelled the herdsmen to turn back since they were not sure if the bridge would not collapse due to the weight of their hefty cows. It was difficult for the people in the community to confront them for fear of being maimed.

Ekiti is one of the six states in South Western Nigeria, so this is expected to be a clarion call on stakeholders of people's security and well-being to beef up their services to give citizens the much needed reassurance that their safety is of utmost importance.

Many even considered this incident as a challenge for the newly formed Amotekun, the security group established to confront the menace of Fulani's herdsmen in the southwestern region, to buck up and live up to its expected aim, the safety of the people.
