Ogun State has set aside the sum of N50m as seed fund to pay compensations to victims of police brutality and their families.
A Judiciary Panel and Committees have also been inaugurated to investigate and punish police officers involved in brutalising the citizens as directed by the National Economic Council.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun however warned that the state would not fold its arms and watch wanton destruction of lives and property in the state in the name of protest.
To this end, the state is putting in place measures to ensure all-round security of residents and their belongings, he said.
Prince Dapo Abiodun, who made this disclosure when he met with heads of security agencies in the state in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, observed that the protest was taking a turn for the worse and therefore must not be allowed to degenerate further.
He said the meeting was to assess, discuss and review the security situation in the State, as occasioned by the #ENDSARS protest currently going on in the country, calling on the youth to sheath their swords to prevent the situation from degenerating into anarchy.
" We as a government identify with the protest. As their representative, it behoves us to identify with their demands and aspirations. The protest is to display their anger on how they are treated by the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS).
" It is their right to protest. The Nigerian youth have demonstrated that they are the leaders of tomorrow. We have allowed them to show their anger, we have reached out to them, though they do not have a clear leader, but a collective leadership", he noted.
Governor Abiodun who urged the youth to exercise restraint while exercising their right, admonished them not to infringe on the rights of others, as "the rights of others starts where theirs stopped".
