Beware! Customs Alerts Public on Covid-19 Infected Frozen Chicken




The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has stepped up its fight against illegal smuggling following the Chinese Government's discovery of Coronavirus in imported food products.

Nigeria Customs has also warned the public of planned smuggling of infected Shrimps and Frozen Chicken from China and Ecuador into Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Comptroller in Charge of Enforcement, Mr. I.T Magaji, in Abuja.

Mr. I.T Magaji charged all Zonal coordinators, Area comptrollers and Border drill coordinators of the need to intensify it’s fight against illegal smuggling, noting that the Chinese Government has detected Coronavirus in imported food products.

In the statement, the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali, also warned and reminded all commands and zones that importation of Live or Dead Birds including, Frozen Poultry – HS Codes 0105. 1100 – 0105. 9900, 0106. 3100 – 0106. 3900, 0207. 1100 – 0207. 3600 and 0210. 9900 through Land border, Airport and Seaport are highly prohibited.

The CGC while charging officers of commands and zones to beef up anti-smuggling activities, he revealed that intelligent reports showed during routine screening of meat and seafood, Chinese authorities detected coronavirus in a sample of frozen Chicken wings and Shrimps from Brazil and Ecuador.
