N200M Awarded Nigerian Manhandled By British Police

UYIOGHOSA EMMANUEL AIGBE, 


A Nigerian Student, UYIOGHOSA EMMANUEL AIGBE, mistaken for a burglar on a night out in Cardiff while awaiting taxi and was manhandled by the South Wales Police has been awarded £4,000(over N200M) as damages.

Aigbe who claimed he was chokeheld and he 'struggled to breathe'.
He said he was  'jumped on, trampled on and dropped on the floor' He was arrested, forcefully taken to a police station and dubbed a suspect in a burglary case.

The South Wales Police later acknowledged that a mistake was made in arresting this man for burglary and that a "full debrief of the incident to identify any opportunities for learning by South Wales Police is taking place and we remain absolutely committed to taking those forward”
